For those who grew up in the 80s and 90s, few gestures endeared you more than giving someone a mixtape filled with carefully chosen songs in a cassette case with personalized artwork.

An implied message accompanied this gesture: I like these songs and I am sharing them with you because I think you will like them too.

The time and effort that went into putting together a mixtape added to the depth and meaning of the gesture. Putting together a mixtape was no small endeavor.

The process involved spending several hours dubbing songs from one cassette to another. And if you didn’t already possess a particular song or album, you had to painstakingly listen to the radio for your song to be played—and then hope the disc jockey didn’t talk too much over the intro or cut short the ending.

Although arguably lacking many of the challenges associated with putting together a mixtape, the modern-day equivalent is creating and sharing a playlist.

A little less than a month ago, the world celebrated National Be a Good Teammate Day. I enjoyed seeing all the related posts on social media and appreciated the many heartfelt DMs, texts, and emails I got from people.

Of all the personal messages I received, my favorite included a Spotify “Be a Good Teammate” playlist.

In the spirit of sharing, I am happily sharing that playlist with you, along with a related good teammate thought from each song:

1. “Don’t Worry Be Happy

Bobby McFarrin

Good teammates encourage those feeling down.

2. “Humble and Kind

Tim McGraw

Good teammates inspire humility through their attitudes.

3. “Put A Little Love in Your Heart

Jackie DeShannon

Good teammates share their love with others.

4. “You’ve Got A Friend in Me

Randy Newman

Good teammates are always available to those in need.

5. “Kill Em With Kindness

Selena Gomez

Good teammates move others through kindness, not meanness.

6. “Man In The Mirror

Michael Jackson

Good teammates are willing to hold themselves accountable.

7. “Count On Me

Bruno Mars

Good teammates can always be counted on, no matter how isolated others feel.

8. “Don’t Stop Believin’

Journey

Good teammates inject hope into even the most hopeless situations.

9. “We Are Family

Sister Sledge

Good teammates foster feelings of togetherness.

10. “I’ll Be There for You

The Rembrandts

Good teammates support others during their most vulnerable moments.

11. “We’re All In This Together

High School Musical Cast

Good teammates energize their teams by reminding them of the power of unity.

12. “Good To Be Alive (Hallelujah)

Andy Grammer

Good teammates convey gratitude by being A.L.I.V.E. (Active, Loyal, Invested, Viral, and Empathetic).

What song(s) would you add to this playlist?

I would love for you to share your suggestions with me. Drop me a DM on social media or simply reply to this email. Your suggestion might be exactly the song someone else needs to hear today.

As always…Good teammates care. Good teammates share. Good teammates listen. Go be a good teammate.
